The Co-op's 10th Anniversary Celebration

On October 23, 2011, the Cooperative reached its 10th Anniversary. This milestone was celebrated with a pot luck luncheon at the lovely home of Diane MacDonald on November 28th. After a short talk reminiscing about the co-op’s beginnings, members enjoyed a celebratory cake. Flutes of sparkling wine were raised to toast the first, successful ten years and wish for another wonderful decade to come.  During the talk, one member, Isabel Roberts, was remembered most fondly. An original signor on the co-op’s 2001 incorporation documents, Isabel and her husband, John, moved to West Vancouver in November. Co-op members were sad to lose her as a member when she left Pender. Isabel was an enthusiastic and energetic part of the co-op  Her art and she will be greatly missed.

Fund Raiser in Memory of
Joy McAughtrie

When co-op member, Joy McAughtrie, died suddenly in San Miguel, Mexico in February 2011, the other co-op members were shocked and saddened. Wanting to honour Joy's memory in some way, the co-op decided to have a show of Joy's work as a tribute. Throughout the month of April, a selection of Joy's paintings was on display at the gallery. Between Joy's family and the co-op, it was decided that all proceeds from the sale of her work, including the co-op's portion, would be donated to Ojala Ninos, a children's charity in San Miguel. Joy often volunteered at the charity while on her annual winter break in San Miguel, making art with the children and sharing her time. Co-op members, along with Joy's children, were proud to present a cheque to Elsmarie Norby for $855.96 in May 2011 at a Celebration of Life gathering at Joy's home. Ms. Norby was very happy to receive the donation on behalf of the children.
