"Landscape
and figures have been inspired by my 20 years of life in
East Africa and Ethiopia. Many of these images remain a
constant
in my work, and my relationship with Africa is ongoing."
"Abstraction
allows a challenging way of looking at the formal aspects of
composition. Perhaps it is even more challenging than
rendering
what is already before the eye. It is exciting to try and
find
balances between diverse elements and express them as line, colour,
form and texture in relationship to each other rather than a linear
thought. It is totally dependant on response and a dialogue
with
the materials." "My printmaking began several years ago as
a desire to put into artform the many sketches I had from Uganda and
Kenya, and has developed into a passion. There is something
lovely about the feel of paper, the touch of ink, and unforgiving
demands of plate. The final excitement of pulling them all
through the printing press culminates in either a successful unity of
these elements...or fodder for the next plate. In Art,
nothing is
wasted....it is all more experience to bring to the next piece."
